21 Oct 6 Personality Traits That Turbo-Charge Your Health and Fitness
Making a massive impact in our Health and Fitness has become a misunderstood art.
We’re inundated with infinite and conflicting information on what being healthy truly means. We seek external solutions, and we often fail, because there is no “one size fits all” approach to health and fitness. Every person – every body – has its own incredibly unique way of expressing life.
But Lifebook Members have a secret weapon…
We know that there is ONE solution that applies to EVERYONE, regardless of age, weight, body type, or physical capacity. And the best part is… it’s already within us, right now, at this very moment.
What is our dream solution?
It’s called OUR CHARACTER.
Our character is the single most influential category when it comes to supporting our health and fitness.
At Lifebook, we’ve identified the character category as the “category of connectivity” for health and fitness. This means that the strength and quality of our character is what will ultimately determine the overall quality of our health and fitness.
Our character is where our self-discipline lives. It’s where we find the courage and the determination to forge ahead in the face of challenges. It’s where we summon patience and perseverance.
It’s within our character that we possess all the equipment we need to win our fitness battles.
By improving our character we improve our chances for success in achieving a healthier, more vibrant lifestyle. And that is exactly what we plan to do this month in the VIP community!
It’s time to leverage our character to achieve massive results…
So ask yourself… What virtues would revolutionize your health and fitness? What character traits would create a paradigm shift in your daily lifestyle?
THESE are the virtues you want to turn into habits this month. And, to get you kick started, we’ve listed 6 powerful personality traits that are sure to turbo-charge your health and fitness.
6 Personality Traits That Turbo-Charge Your Health and Fitness
1. Self-Discipline
Self-discipline is one of the most important qualities required to create the health and fitness you desire, and an absolutely foundational character trait to your overall quality of life.
You need self-discipline to manifest any goal, fulfill any desire, master any skill, and fuel your personal development.
But what is self-discipline?
Self-discipline is having the ability to make yourself do WHAT you should do, WHEN you should do it, whether you feel like it or not. It’s incredibly simple really (though now always easy). In the eternal words of Nike, “Just Do It!” Doing this enables you to overcome your perceived weaknesses and pursue what you really want, even when there are setbacks.
And as your self-discipline grows, your self-esteem grows right alongside it. You actually begin to ENJOY exercising control over yourself, and the benefits that it yields. You gain extreme confidence in your abilities and your value. This newfound confidence feeds your self-discipline, and creates a positive feedback loop.
2. Moderation
Moderation is an avoidance of extremes or excess, and while it absolutely requires self-discipline, it’s in a class of its own.
The power of moderation simply cannot be overstated. It can be the KEY to sustainability in all aspects of our health and fitness.
Moderation enables us to avoid “yo-yo” behaviors, where we teeter back and forth between two opposite extremes, whether it be our eating habits or commitment to (or lack thereof) our exercise routines.
When we moderate our behaviors, we build internal trust with ourselves. We have faith that we know what our body needs – whether it be a beautiful kale salad, or a little piece of dark chocolate. We have confidence that we will fulfill those needs in a conscious, balanced, and disciplined way.
Moderation can set us free.
3. Courage
Deciding to get in fantastic shape takes guts. It takes a LOT of guts.
You have to go against the norm in so many respects. Most of us are immersed in communities, patterns, and beliefs that hold us back from breaking through to our next level of greatness. It takes COURAGE to carve a new path… to find, and say, what’s right for YOU… to strive for change… and to fail, and get back up again.
But it is with courage that we persevere in the face of adversity, stand up for our vision, and reach out and take it.
And remember…
“Courage does not always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, ‘I will try again tomorrow.’”
-Mary Anne Radmacher
4. Preparation
One of the most valuable strategies for achieving your health and fitness goals happens to be an easy one… simply being prepared.
There’s nothing more frustrating than opening the refrigerator and realizing that you are completely unprepared to create a healthy, fulfilling meal. Likewise, there is nothing more nagging than a workout that you’ve been “meaning” to get to all day, but just haven’t found the time for.
When we prepare, we set ourselves up for success. Though sometimes it doesn’t feel like it, making our health an absolute priority actually makes it so much easier on us. And when it’s easy, we’ll follow through.
Set a schedule and stick to it. Plan the night before. Lay out your exercise clothes and shoes, and set your alarm. Be punctual… you wouldn’t be late to an engagement with your boss or a client, so don’t be late to this meeting with your body. Keep your refrigerator stocked with nourishing food, both for cooking and for those convenient grab-and-go moments. You can even make healthy meals in advance for the week, so you don’t even have to think about it. Whatever works for you, do it. By being prepared, you set yourself up to succeed.
5. Accountability
Motivation is an incredible driver when it comes to our health and fitness, but it’s impossible to sustain 24 hours a day, every single day. And when our pumped-up energy and enthusiasm is all tapped out, and the alarm goes off before the sun rises, what is left to drive us forward?
Accountability.
When you know a friend is waiting for you at the corner of your street, you get out of bed at 5am whether you want to or not. When you declare your nutritional goals and keep a regular food journal, chances are you’re going to stick with it if you have someone checking in on you regularly.
Accountability gets you moving, whether you’re motivated or not. It helps enforce discipline and can be the difference between reaching your goals, and falling short.
6. Patience
In the era of instant-approval, on-demand entertainment, and fast food, we’ve become accustomed to the “I want it NOW” mentality. Unfortunately, our bodies don’t react the same way. Like every living organism, we require progressive growth.
As Lifebook Member Kevin Donahue shares with us in his post this month,
“Rarely do things come to us instantly. In nature there is something called a gestation period. A baby takes approximately 9 months to develop; a carrot takes about 48 days, other things in nature take longer, others shorter… But everything takes time.”
Your health and fitness goals are no different, and if we wish to elevate ourselves to the next level of success, we must patiently endure the inevitable ups and downs of change.
